The Club was formed in 1972 at Kaya Mandi Township by a group of employees of the ex-Stellenbosch Farmers Winery (Now called Distell) who lived in the old hostels. The club was then financially supported by the Human Resources Department, and later was offered sponsorship through to Martell Brandy. The relationship between SFW and he club continued for more than 3 decades until last 2003 when the brand was moved to Pernod Ricard.

The club consists of the following teams:
• 1st senior team of 28 players playing in the SAFA Boland SAB League (Division 3)
• 2nd senior team of 20 players that plays in Metropolitan League
• 4 junior teams of 100 players (U/11, U/13, U/15 & U/17) playing in SAFA Boland junior competitions
• One ladies team that plays in the SAFA Boland Super League.

It is our vision to qualify for Vodacom League during the end of April 2010. The club appeals across racial and cultural boundaries in the Western Cape

"MIGHTY FIVE STAR FC" is an initiative that focuses on meeting sporting challenges of the 21st century through education, development, community development & sports leadership. The current phase of the project is aimed at developing foundation for future soccer stars in support of SA 2010 vision in our community. Further emphasis is placed on helping the players to acquire the necessary life skills to deal with the socio economic problems like crime, HIV/AIDS, substance and drug abuse. To deliver this, a collective and inclusive approach has to be developed to instill the culture of learning.
